Hostingcon 2010 – Day 1

Man, today was a longggggg day! Seeing as last night we didn’t get to the hotel until well after 1am and all the stuff that happened at check-in left me a little bit freaked out to say the least. I ended up getting up early to find absolutely zero towels or shampoo – absolutely great. I’m quite a hypocrite, I said “I didn’t expect much” but I expected at least towels and shampoo… is that too much to ask? Regardless we got some and I started my day as Kyle started his working from Motel 6… classy. I initially got to the convention center and picked up my Hostingcon pass and ran into Roy from Zopim. We ended up having breakfast together and hanging out together for the full day. I went to Douglas from A Small Oranges speech over customer service, which brought a lot of great ideas that I hope we can implement into Limestone Networks. I then met Ditlev, CEO of UK2Group in person finally – he’s such a pleasure to speak to on Webhostingtalk and facebook. The VPS.net team, Jon from Sharkspace, Rodney from Eleven2, and myself went to PF Changs for lunch, which was nice. It ended up taking Terry and I about 45 minutes to find PF Changs to find out in the end it was one block away and that Google Maps on your iPhone is not too accurate. Oh well, it was nice to talk to him and learn more about VPS.net and how they are revolutionizing the industry especially in the cloud. The rest of the day was just sitting around talking to the owners of Colo@/Wiresix/Total Server Solutions and management at JaguarPC. Towards the end of the night I found the infamous Thomas from 100TB.com who I always give a bad time to for always being on regardless of what time of day or night it is. However I found out the reason, his boss Ditlev gave him a no cap commission based job as the sales manager at 100TB. Literally Thomas has built that whole brand just using Ditlevs Amex credit card. Thomas introduced me to the softlayer girls, which are the beautiful sales reps from Softlayer. What is funny is that Arielle read my pass and instantly recognized me from when she was my account manager well over two years ago when I had servers at Softlayer. I give her props, that made my night – no joke. I eventually ran into the Hostdime crew, how could you miss them? There is what seems over twenty of them all wearing Hostdime shirts. It was nice to finally meet Waseem Daher from Ksplice.com, he is always on my butt on adding licenses for KSplice however I respect him for being such a great sales guy. The female sales rep at Ksplice was cute… who knew there were outwardly beautiful women in this industry???  I got an invite from Rackspace to go to their wine get together that honestly was not all that great in my opinion. There were probably a good two hundred or so of us down in the cellar and I did not know most of the people since they are either hardware vendors, bandwidth carriers, or Rackspace customers. Most people ended up going to Steadfasts beer crawl which consisted of three hours of drinking and more drinking. I am sure Matt Russell made it to that one. I will have to see what people thought of it. Tomorrow should be fun as the exhibit halls open and I will be going to Hostdimes party and possible cPanels “Unleash your inner geek” party as long as the building owner will allow me to go in since I am under twenty-one. I shall update all of y’all tomorrow, have a pleasant week! J

Hostingcon 2010 – Day 0

I am finally hereeeee! For months I have been waiting to get to this place, I know that may sound cheesy but it’s true. The webhostingtalk.com member’s dinner get together was a ton of fun because 80-100 people showed up. It was a pleasure to meet the moderators from webhostingtalk.com like the_pm, CAmstrong, and Mike V. We ended up staying at Aussie’s Bar until one A.M., I would have never of thought I would have been there that long, or that Benny from Liquidweb would be so outgoing to say the least. I have spoken to her on many of occasions but never have met her in person; she is a ball to be around.  It was just an all around great night to meet people, to name a few of the people I met – Terry from VPS.net, Roy from Zopim, Mario from cPanel, Kelie from cPanel and her mom, Evan from Host4Yourself who was my ex-boss who I have great respect for and many others. We eventually left at around one A.M. to head to our crazy awesome home away from home – the Motel 6. *Sarcasm* It honestly didn’t look too bad; my expectations were not too high for forty a night. Kyle had to check in since I dragged him here so I could get a hotel. :P With that being said after he started the check in progress a female ran into the hotel check-in-area-that-I-will-not-call-a-lobby and was just in distress. You could obviously tell she was crying and hurt emotionally and possibly physically. The first thing that came to my mind was “oh my gosh, was she raped?” and so I instinctively asked her “are you okay?” in which she replied “Please! I need someone’s phone! PLEASE!” Being the person I am I had absolutely no issue giving her my phone in which she tried to make a call off of my lovely iPhone 4 it dropped. She ended up calling the number back and had a quick conversation to which I did not pay much attention to. However with that being said she gave me one of the greatest hugs ever, you could tell that she absolutely was thankfully beyond belief for what I did for. It is amazing how people are thankfully for such a small thing.

Just about to head out to Hostingcon

Hello,

I’m absolutely pumped for Hostingcon, words can not even describe it. :) I’ll be leaving my place to pick up my boss(Kyle Haynes) and start our trek down to Austin, Texas. Tonight roughly forty of us from webhostingtalk.com are going to get together at Aussies Bar – do not worry, it’s an all age establishment and absolutely no drinking for me. It is going to be lots of fun, there will be Kyle and I from Limestone Networks, a few from Leaseweb, Steadfast, and many other large companies in this industry. It is going to be so much fun, I’ll be posting updates throughout the week, so keep your eye out for updates. :)

Hostingcon 2010 :)

Howdy,

As many of you know I have been very psyched to go to Hostingcon 2010. For a while there it became very iffy, then yesterday it went completely down the tubes for about thirty minutes. I was told that Limestone would not be there the whole week as I thought we initially were. However being the person I am I devised this great plan, “why not pay my manager to come down with me to Hostingcon and he’ll get to room free with me and explore Austin all he would like?” Well that plan worked! I paid my manager to get me a hotel room and in return he gets to stay in Austin for free! :) See all of you in Austin for Hostingcon 2010. :)

How did I land such a great job?

photoHowdy,
I am such a lucky person to have the job I have today. I told myself I didn’t want a stereotypical first job, I’m never a person that settles for the norm. I’m a person that sets huge goals, and getting hired in this industry, for such a large company – Isn’t normal at all. I originally applied at Limestone in May of 2009, I never heard anything back and honestly didn’t expect to. I knew that at least I put my name in the hat and if/when that time came – I would know. Fast forward almost a year to March of 2010. I get a facebook message from one of Limestone employees asking “Hey man, I had a couple of questions for you. Mind if I give you a call later? Whats your #?”. I found that a bit odd, I actually thought he got hacked at first or something. However, I replied with my number. I got a call later in the day from the CEO of LSN, I found that a bit odd. I expected a call from Kyle, definitely not a CEO of a large company. The conversation was casual and he just asked me general questions that resembled a phone interview, but at the time I didn’t think anything of it. Towards the very end of the phone call, he said that it was indeed a phone interview. I was literally jumping up and down to hear that, I am a quite optimistic person. He told me to give a call to the normal line and set an in-person interview. I was really nervous about the interview, how should I dress? What kind of questions is he going to ask me? How am I going to answer these potential questions? When the time came for the in person interview, it was very relaxed and seemed like a normal conversation. The one question I won’t forget it, “Sell me this pen. Why should I buy it from you and not just buy pens for 20 cents cheaper elsewhere?” My answer wasn’t too good, “I’ll throw in free shipping!” Either way, I thought the interview went well. I got a call 20 minutes later after the interview ended from the CEO of Limestone saying let’s have another in person interview. Gary, our CEO, is a very great guy. He’s very easy to talk to, he showed me around and I felt welcomed by all of the current staff of LSN. At the end I was offered the job, and I was ecstatic. Gary took a leap of faith when hiring me, for sure he made the right decision. I’m one heck of a worker, I’m not perfect though, don’t get that impression. It’s so cool to get congratulation emails and phone calls from other high up people in the industry. That’s where keeping your nose clean and creating good friendships come into play. I don’t believe people understand the importance of keeping your nose clean, especially in this industry since everything can be and will be looked at with scrutiny. I’m so very happy with the job I have, it’s a dream come true. :)

One picture that describes me!

We all know that a picture is worth a thousand words, well a thought came to me… let me try and photograph something that explains absolutely everything about me. So I was on hunt, and I didn’t have to look too far to find what I was looking for.

A photo that describes me

The photo of the plane shows my passion for flight. The eagle shows how I am an Eagle Scout, and how I am a trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent person. The batteries show my love for computers. :)

Do you remember Candyland?

I know this is… super… random! Wasn’t that such a fun game when we were kids?

Welcome to 2010 :)
